TITLE: COUNSELOR
Reports to: Residential Manager
Summary:
The Counselor functions as a member of a treatment team, providing direct care for the children and participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment plans. The Counselor functions as a member of the Residential Team.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure that the children's basic daily needs are met.
- Implement the behavior management program and program philosophy.
- Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual and milieu treatment plans.
- Documentation and record keeping.
- Administer medications to clients following appropriate training.
- Plan and implement affective/life skills groups.
- Participate in team meetings, clinical staffings, case reviews, and in-service training. Regularly communicate with Managers and Therapists.
- Act as an advocate for one or more children as assigned. Advocacy responsibilities include:
- Regular communication with the Residential Manager, Therapist and consultants regarding the child's treatment plan.
- Present oral report at the clinical staff meeting.
- Write quarterly reports.
- Attend IEP meetings
- Routine shift duties, with continual supervision of the children of primary importance.
- Daily coordination of transportation of clients to therapy or activities.
- Attend staff development and training as assigned, successfully completing First Aid, Medication Administration, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
- Access client's protected health information according to the "minimum necessary" standard to complete job responsibilities.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by a Residential Manager, Residential Director or other administrator.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a human service field or commensurate experience.
- Must meet Namaqua Center hiring requirements.
